Palermo, Sicily, located in southern Italy, is the capital of both the autonomous region of Sicily and the Metropolitan City of Palermo, the city’s surrounding metropolitan province. The city is noted for its history, culture, architecture and gastronomy. It is playing an important role throughout much of its existence; it is over 2,700 years old. See why.
It is one of those cities with a very distinct, almost tangible atmosphere, a place of mystery, where reality often outperforms the traveler’s imagination and preconceived stereotypes. I really liked the vibe of the city.
It is a buzzing Mediterranean centre with one million inhabitants. Its strategic position at the heart of the Mediterranean brought wave upon wave of different invaders. The result of this quilted history is evident today in the vast range of architectural styles.
Every corner you just feel like you are in a movie. Food is great, locals are super friendly and grateful. However, if you don’t speak Italian, prepare yourself that you won’t be able to communicate in English with many locals.
But visit Palermo in any year and you’ll still be able to get your fill of art and culture across the UNESCO World Heritage historic centre. Long story short, put Sicily on your bucket list, you will have something to see and feel different!
